DESCRIPTION:
APW - Hamilton, Grade 3992B, 22J, World War II era "Master Navigation Watch" made for British military use, 16S, chrome-plated base metal OF case with Ministry of Defence (English spelling) pheon on rear as well as Hydrographic Services (HS3) contract markings which have been overscored, painted metal decimal style re-dial executed in 1970s era for UK Royal Navy "Work Study" use, SW-hack-set, fully capped lever escapement, mono-metallic balance with Elinvar hairspring, mvt marked "U.S. Govt.," striped pattern nickel damascene, s#3C588. Watch comes with a fitted wooden box with internal Ministry of Defence 1978 dated card. This watch began life as a Master Navigation Watch but in the 1970s was repurposed along with a number of other 3992B in British stock with the addition of the present decimal style dial and updating of case rear markings for use in "Work Study" at the Royal Navy dockyards.

Mvt: Running, good hacking function, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright plate with some scattered micro-fine scratches; flawless dial; nearly mint hands, sweep-seconds hand with spot of bluing loss to base; case shows light wear, many scattered fine scratches to rear especially at shoulder and along band, some marring along areas of bezel shoulder, no dents or dings, contract markings remain fully legible and sit very slightly askew despite matching serial numbers, areas of finish loss to band, small spots of finish loss to band and bezel shoulders; tight bow, crown shows little wear; clean plastic crystal. Box in excellent condition, exterior with a crackled appearance to top, some marring throughout, crudely but lightly etched four-digit number to top, good buckle latch, interior with "231" stamped within on bottom.
